A really unique use of curved vertical timber make this garden really stand out
Red River... honest, reliable, knowledgeable and conscientious.
Another blank slate: a new build house ready for the Red River treatment! We went timber-tastic with this design and build. Using vertical timber in a garden can give fantastic opportunities for curved shapes. We used them here to great effect as the client wanted a really unique garden which would also have natural materials such and timber and sandstone paving.
Part of the client brief was to create a seating area in the far corner for the garden to take advantage of the sun later in the day. We designed a sunken area with a circular Indian sandstone patio and used vertical timber sleepers to surround it and create a mini-sanctuary in the garden. The idea of the curved sleeper beds is to not only created height in the previously flat garden, but also to visually connect the garden areas so that the curved theme flows throughout. The timber is locally sourced Larch and will weather to a silvery-grey as the planting matures and spills over the edges. We used a reclaimed piece of Oak as a built in seat next to the main patio. The clients didn’t want too much lawn so we also created a lower planting bed and used beach cobbles and a round sandstone water feature. This was placed to be seen from not only the patio, but also the living room and the kitchen, and the beautiful cobbles really come to life when they are wet!
