Big, bold Cornish stone terraces for a big slope.

Two large geometric terraces really gave some character to the grassy slope. The terraces were designed to make better use of the space and also enhance the view from the house. The low maintenance planting will mature over the years and spill down over the terraces to give an even better vista from the lower levels.

The terraces are faced with beautiful Callywith Quarry Cornish stone, working with natural products like these always give such great character to gardens. It is always important to have the correct foundations,  and of course drainage solutions, for terraced walls and these large ones were no exception. One of the really nice features of the shapes of the terraces is the way the fall of the shadows change as the sun moves through the sky. It is always a slightly different view from the kitchen window throughout the day. We designed and installed a multi level water feature above the built-in seating, it was certainly relaxing sitting there after the project was complete having a cup of tea! There is also lighting installed to illuminate the waterfall at night.
